AI as an assistant

Use AI to support your work, not to make decisions for you. Treat outputs as a first draft. Check sources, apply your judgement, and refine before taking action.

Protect company data

Do not include sensitive information in prompts or paste internal data. Avoid client names, contracts, credentials, and figures. When in doubt, anonymise and share only what is strictly necessary.

Clear instructions

Write requests with a clear goal, context, and constraints. Specify the output format, audience, and tone. Clarify what to avoid and the criteria the result must meet to be useful.

Questions about the mandatory AI Act training requirements

Is it mandatory to train employees in AI?

Yes, partially. Article 4 of EU Regulation 2024/1689 (the AI Act) requires any business that uses AI systems to ensure its staff have a "sufficient level of AI literacy", proportionate to the use and risk of the systems deployed. It does not require a specific official certification, but it does require reasonable evidence of training delivered.

What does Article 4 of the AI Act say?

Article 4 states that AI providers and deployers shall adopt measures to ensure, to the best extent possible, a sufficient level of AI literacy among their staff and any persons operating and using AI systems on their behalf, taking into account their technical knowledge, experience, education and training, as well as the context of use.

What happens on 2 August 2026?

On 2 August 2026, enforcement and the sanctions regime of the AI Act start applying for high-risk AI systems. The AI literacy obligation under Article 4 has applied since 2 February 2025, but from that date non-compliance becomes enforceable.

Can AI training be subsidised via FUNDAE?

For Spain-based organisations, yes. Job-related Artificial Intelligence training can be 100% subsidised via FUNDAE as part of the company-funded training scheme. It includes courses on ChatGPT, Copilot, Claude, prompt engineering, AI for HR, AI automation, and AI Act compliance.

Do we need an official AI training certificate?

The AI Act does not require a specific official certificate. What it asks for is "reasonable evidence of literacy proportionate to the risk". A certificate of completion such as The Hispanos Tech Academy's provides strong evidence against that standard.

How many hours of AI training does an employee need?

It depends on the role. For basic AI literacy across the workforce, 20 hours are typically sufficient to meet Article 4 with a reasonable margin.
Deployment owners need additional training, as do Compliance and Senior Management teams.
